Day 1 – Good Bye Cartagena
There will be a pre-departure meeting around 10:00 or 11:00 AM, where your payment and passports will be collected for immigration and we will be available to answer any last minute questions. You are then free to explore Cartagena for the day and will return that evening for the welcome briefing and departure (either that evening or early the next morning depending on weather conditions). Enjoy the cityscapes before you head out to sea on your sailing adventure!
Day 2 – Open Sea
Wake up at sea! If you are lucky, you may get a visit from a family of dolphins swimming along with the boat. Get to know your fellow passengers, chill out and listen to music, play cards, or read a good book. On a clear night, watch the shooting stars! If it is cloudy you can get a glimpse of the amazing bioluminescent plankton glittering in the boat’s wake. Hopefully your crew will catch a fish or two and you can have some fresh sashimi or ceviche.
Day 3 – Welcome to San Blas Islands
You made it to paradise! You have now sailed more than 200 nautical miles and completed an intercontinental crossing. Normally your first stop is at the easternmost remote and exotic islands. The hope is to arrive in the morning and be able to enjoy your first dip in the turquoise waters. Snorkel, meet the Gunas, explore the island, or simply relax in the sand. Anything is possible! Enjoy dinner aboard the boat or on the islands; relax or party it up at a bonfire with music.
Day 4 – New day, new island
You have arrived at the central cay! Here you will start to see more locals and other boats exploring this wonderland. Play volleyball, football, shop for artisan souvenirs, and enjoy a coco loco at the island bar. At night, lie out on deck and watch the stars while sharing stories with friends.
Day 5 – Last day in paradise
You have arrived at the islands closest to the mainland and the most touristic ones! Today your captain will get you stamped into Panama and take care of everything while you enjoy swimming and discovering new islands. Each boat is different, so on each trip, the crew will tell you the plan for the day. You may enjoy a barbecue on the islands or traditional food prepared by the Kuna community. If your boat ends in Puerto Lindo you will set sail this evening from San Blas for the last night of navigation (Between 8 and 12 hours). If your boat ends in San Blas, you will enjoy another night anchored in paradise. Tonight you should ideally leave all your luggage packed and ready to go for the morning.
Day 6 – Welcome to Panama
If your trip ends in San Blas:
You have a light breakfast onboard and then disembark after say goodbye to paradise! You will wake up early and have a light breakfast onboard while waiting for the speedboat to take you to the mainland. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but you will have made memories and friendships to last a lifetime! The captain will organize a shared 4×4 Jeep to transport you to your hotel or hostel in Panama City. You will most likely arrive around midday (please note this is not included in the price of the trip).

If your trip ends in Puerto Lindo:
Say goodbye to your captain and crew! Parting is always hard, but you will have made memories and friendships that you’ll never forget. Disembark and you are then free to enjoy the town of Puerto Lindo and take local transport to Panama City. Otherwise the captain will organize a shuttle for you and your fellow passengers that will take you to your hotel or hostel in Panama City. FAQ 5-nights sailing trip

FAQ 5-nights sailing trip

Will we get to sail?

The windy season runs from mid-December to April, where strong winds are common, usually making it a great time to set sail! Outside of windy season, especially during June, July, and August, winds can get quite quiet which can make it difficult to sail.

It is important for captains to sail on schedule, which means there are times where they are forced to rely on the motor when the winds aren’t complying in order to do so. While the captains prefer sailing, safety and comfort are our top priorities for both the passengers and the boat. If sailing is important to you, we recommend booking a smaller fiberglass monohull.

What will the weather be like?

It depends on the time of year! May to November tends to be the calmest time of year to sail between Panama and Colombia. You might intermittently get brief rain showers, but it usually clears up within a couple of hours or so. December through April is a windy season which usually provides excellent conditions for a sailing adventure! The tropical climate of the Carribean San Blas makes it an excellent place to travel year round!

What is there to do in the islands?

Anything is possible! Explore paradise, play volleyball, soccer, snorkel, kayak, take a dip in the turquoise water, meet the locals, buy souvenirs, relax or party it up at a bonfire with music on the islands. The possibilities are endless!

Can I bring alcohol & Snacks?

Yes! Three meals a day, water, coffee, & tea are all included in the price of the trip, but we always encourage passengers to bring their own snacks, beverages, and alcohol as well. Coolers will be provided for you to store and chill any beverages you bring.

Do the boats cater to special diets?

All of the boats can accommodate vegan, gluten free, pescatarian, and vegetarian diets. There is a 25 usd fee to accommodate all special diets (15 usd to the chef for the added effort and 10 usd to the boat to buy ingredients).

It is important to advise us of any allergies or dietary restrictions when finalizing your booking, failure to do so will make it difficult for the crew to accommodate your diet. Please note, you cannot change your diet once the tour has begun.

Do I need a visa or yellow fever certificate?

You may need a visa depending on the country of origin of your passport. We recommend asking your embassy if you are unsure. The yellow fever vaccine is only required upon arrival to Panama or Colombia if you have been to Brazil in the past six months.

Can I take a surfboard or bicycle?

All our boats can accept surfboards and bicycles, but they do charge a fee to bring them onboard. There may also be additional costs to transport them to and from Panama City.

Can I travel with my pet?

It depends on the boat! Only boats that arrive to or depart from Puerto Lindo, Panama can take pets. If you are interested in taking your pet with you, let us know beforehand and we can ask the captain!

What do you wear in San Blas Islands

Pack light! You are headed to the beautiful Caribbean islands of San Blas; so bring comfortable light clothing good for the beach and don’t forget your bathing suit!
