Kindly note that this itinerary serves as a general guide. Daily activities and timings may differ between boats, and the itineraries provided are flexible to accommodate your captain’s preferences. Additionally, as is common with any great sailing adventures, schedules are subject to adjustment based on weather and sea conditions.

Day 1: Goodbye Cartagena

There will be a pre-departure meeting around 10:00 – 11:00 AM on the day of the trip, where your payment and passports will be collected for immigration. You are then free to explore Cartagena for the day and will return that evening for the welcome briefing and departure (either that evening or early the next morning depending on weather conditions). Enjoy the cityscapes as you head out to sea on your sailing adventure!

Day 2: Open Sea

Wake up at sea! If you are lucky, you may get a visit from a family of dolphins swimming along with the boat. Get to know your fellow passengers, chill out and listen to music, play cards, or read a good book. On a clear night, watch the shooting stars! If it is cloudy you can get a glimpse of the amazing bioluminescent plankton glittering in the boat’s wake. Hopefully your crew will catch a fish or two and you can have some fresh sashimi or ceviche.

Day 3: Welcome to San Blas!

You made it to paradise! You have now sailed more than 200 nautical miles and completed an intercontinental crossing. Normally your first stop is at the easternmost remote and exotic islands. The hope is to arrive in the morning and be able to enjoy your first dip in the turquoise waters. Each boat is different, so on each trip, the crew will tell you the plan for the day. Snorkel, meet the Gunas, explore the island, or simply relax in the sand. Anything is possible! Enjoy dinner aboard the boat or on the islands; relax or party it up at a bonfire with music on the island.

Day 4: New day, new island…

You have arrived at the central cay! Here you will start to see more locals and other boats exploring this wonderland. Play volleyball, football, shop for artisan souvenirs, and enjoy a coco loco at the island bar. At night, lie out on deck and watch the stars while sharing stories with friends.

Day 5: Last day in paradise

You have arrived at the islands closest to the mainland and the most touristic ones! Today your captain will get you stamped into Panama and take care of everything while you enjoy swimming and discovering new islands. You may enjoy a barbecue on the islands or traditional food prepared by the Kuna community.

If your boat ends in Puerto Lindo you will set sail this evening from San Blas for the last night of navigation (Between 8 and 12 hours).

If your boat ends in San Blas, you will enjoy another night anchored in paradise. Tonight you should ideally leave all your luggage packed and ready to go for the morning.

Day 6: Welcome to Panama!

  • If your trip ends in San Blas:

Say goodbye to paradise! You will wake up early and have a light breakfast onboard while waiting for the speedboat to take you to the mainland. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but you will have made memories and friendships to last a lifetime! The captain will organize a shared 4×4 Jeep to transport you to your hotel or hostel in Panama City. You will most likely arrive around midday (please note this is not included in the price of the trip).

  • If your trip ends in Puerto Lindo:

Say goodbye to your captain and crew! Parting is always hard, but you will have made memories and friendships that you’ll never forget. Disembark and you are then free to enjoy the town of Puerto Lindo and take local transport to Panama City. Otherwise the captain will organize a shuttle for you and your fellow passengers that will take you to your hotel or hostel in Panama City. You will most likely arrive around midday (please note this is not included in the price of the trip).

FAQ 5-night sailing trip

The windy season runs from mid-December to April during which time strong winds are common, usually making it a great time to set sail! Outside of the windy season, winds can get quite quiet which can make it difficult to sail. It is important for captains to sail on schedule, which means there are times when they are forced to rely on the motor when the winds aren’t complying in order to do so. While the captains prefer sailing, safety, and comfort are our top priorities for both the passengers and the boat. If sailing is important to you, we recommend booking a smaller fiberglass monohull during the windy season.
