Merecedes, also know as Mechi, is Colombian, born in Cartagena, she has had the privilege of sailing throughout the Caribbean and parts of the Mediterranean, experiences that have led her to her current role as captain of the Gecko working the route.

She began her life at sea 7 years ago, working in various roles, including chef and first mate, before progressing to her current position as captain. Meche comes from a family of fishermen, and she has held a deep admiration for marine life since childhood. She is passionate about sailing, always prioritizing safety, and practices fishing responsibly, with respect for the marine ecosystem.
